FIELDWORK FOCUS:

  • Implemented a programme to support adolescents with disabilities transitioning into adulthood, supporting independent living, tertiary-level education, and/ or work.

  • Provided group training and 1:1 coaching to special needs educators of transition-aged youth to support occupational performance in adolescents with disabilities in Anguilla. 

  • Create modules for special needs educators of transition aged-youth addressing all occupations listed by the American Occupational Therapy Association

  • Distributed modules that entailed best evidence-based practices, support, and resources, focused on life skills and pre-vocational training for adolescents with disabilities in the form of a video and handout.

Promoting Occupational Performance in Adolescents with Disabilities in Anguilla

LOCATION: ANGUILLA, BWI

TIME: 4 MONTHS

RESEARCH OVERVIEW:

This capstone project focused on training and coaching educators of special needs units with the knowledge and skills to support life-skills development and pre-vocational training in adolescents with disabilities, for a successful transition into adulthood. Educators received modules that entailed videos and handouts of best evidence-based practices and instructional strategies, formative and summative assessments, activity analysis examples that specified the required client factors and performance skills, modeled examples, and resources for each listed occupation: ADLs, IALDs, Work/ Education, Leisure/ Rest, Social Participation and Health Management.
